Evangeline Booth Garden Apartments (EBGA) has large bathrooms featuring safety grab bars. Also included in each apartment are telephone & cable television access, wall-to-wall carpeting, generous closet space and an efficiently designed kitchen with standard appliances. EBGA has a large laundry room and a thousand-plus book library / computer room. Additionally, we have a large community room with adjoining warm-up kitchen and crafts room. Small pets are allowed with a required additional pet deposit of $300.00. Eligibility requirements (for 2011) include an income not greater than $17,500 for one person and $20,000 for two. The applicants must be at least 62 years of age. Rent is calculated at 30% of the applicants income. Factors, which could ultimately lower the rent, such as pharmaceutical and medical bills, will be taken into consideration. Allowances and expenses for disabled persons may also factor into lowering rent. Tenants must be able to maintain their own household; EBGA is not licensed to provide any nursing services, 24 hour monitoring, food preparation or household cleaning. EBGA offers 4 apartments for mobility impaired elderly families, which feature lower countertops and countertops without cabinets under them. The 4 units also contain non-curbed walk in showers with folding bench and lower closet shelving. EBGA also offers 2 apartments for hearing impaired elderly families, which contain fire alarm strobes and illuminated door annunciators. NOTE: Persons with degenerative conditions may qualify for one of these accessible units if their condition results in mobility or hearing impairment that makes the applicant able to benefit from the special design features of the apartment.
