The Ansonia Housing Authority makes housing available in two different ways: through housing that we own, and through the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance program (formerly known as Section 8). The Ansonia Housing Authority owns, manages and maintains residences throughout Ansonia. Some residences are concentrated to create complete neighborhoods with community centers, gardens and recreational areas. Some are more suited for families and others are more suited for older adults. HCV Rent Assistance Program The HCV Rental Assistance Program was established by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. This program, funded by HUD and formerly known as Section 8, provides rental subsidies to up to 647 low-income families who live in privately-owned housing units throughout Ansonia, Shelton, and Seymour. Families pay approximately 30% of their income for housing and utilities. The Ansonia Housing Authority pays the difference between the payment standard and the amount contributed by the family as a subsidy directly to the landlord. The HCV Program is a partnership between private landlords, low-income families, and the Housing Authority. We recognize that it takes all three parties working together to make this program a success, and appreciate the landlord's contribution to this effort. ...see full details
