Washington House - Affordable Community is a HUD Apartment. HUD residents usually pay 30% of their gross income for rent. The rent amount, less approved HUD deductions such as medical and child care expenses, and other allowances, includes a utility allowance. HUD Residents also may choose to pay what is known as flat rent. The HACC works with applicants to determine which rent arrangement is best for them.

Washington House is a former school with a wonderful tower crowning its two-story brick edifice and a broad roof with a copper overhang that sports a tell-tale green color. Built in 1897, this lovely building is on the National Register of Historic Places and includes 14 apartments – four studios and 10 one-bedrooms.
The apartments are spacious, with high ceilings and big windows that provide lots of light. The second floor lounge has comfortable seating and a media center. The first floor has another sitting area as well as a coin-operated laundry. A nice yard with a picnic table adds to the desirability, as well as onsite parking. Pets are welcome, with certain restrictions.
This unique building has an eclectic mix of architectural styles, including Colonial Revival and Italianate. Single-family and two-family homes as well as retail and commercial businesses dot the neighborhood. The nearby Mill River Park offers walking trails in a tranquil setting along the river.
The property offers Section 8 rental assistance. There is a waitlist. Contact the management to apply.
