San Diego Housing Commission provides low income residents with housing assistance through the management of programs such as Low Rent Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program - Section 8. These programs are income based and eligibility requirements are set by HUD. There may be a waiting list for these programs vouchers or rentals and at times the lists may close to new applicants as the need for housing assistance becomes greater than the funds for rental assistance or the availability of housing. If you are in need of housing assistance in the area please contact the Housing Commission directly to obtain more information about program eligibility, availability of assistance or rentals, the status of any waiting lists and their application procedures.

Note: Apartments may not have openings or may have long waiting lists. Call for complete details.

Most apartments have waiting lists. Search early and do not just settle on one apartment choice.

Contact Your Local Housing Authority

Housing authorities have many opportunities. Many do have closed waiting lists, but they may be able to provide other public housing resources.

Check The Federal Poverty Sliding Scale Guidelines

Check to see if you qualify for low cost or free housing by comparing the guidelines to your income records.
