New Haven Housing Authority - Elm City Communities provides housing assistance to low income residents through the management of programs such as Low Rent Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Program - Section 8. There may be a waiting list for vouchers or rentals and at times the lists may close to new applicants due to the overwhelming need for housing assistance and the long wait time for assistance for those already on the waiting lists. If you are in need of housing assistance please contact the Housing Authority directly to obtain more information about program eligibility requirements, availability of assistance or rentals, the status of any waiting lists and their application   procedures.

Tips Before Applying for Low Income Housing
  • 1. Research all of the different low-income housing programs available in your area. There are a variety of federal, state, and local programs that offer low-income housing assistance. Each program has its own eligibility requirements and application process, so it is important to do your research to find the program that is right for you.
  • 2. Get all of your documentation in order: When you apply for low income housing, you will need to provide documentation of your income, assets, and household composition. This documentation may include tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, and birth certificates.
  • 3. Be careful and accurate on all information provided: Any false or misleading information on your application will most likely result in your disqualification.
  • 4. Waiting Lists: The waiting lists for most, if not all low-income housing programs is long. Do not limit yourself to only apply to one apartment location.

If you have any availability i'd really like to come see it. I need a 2 bedroom because i have a daughter. My lease is up soon but if i can find a place sooner i can move without consequences. We've been here over 11 years i'll have a good reference from them and all my bills are paid every month. Let me know if you have any availability now or coming up very soon.

I have been calling and getting no response from y worker for 3 weeks and the run around from those answering the telephone as well. I am trying to request a change to my rent as my roommate is currently in a nursing home and our rent needs to be adjusted as such. This is an ongoing issue that needs to be resolved before i am evicted. Thank you for your prompt attention and assistance.
