Tips Before Applying for Low Income Housing

Each program has its own eligibility requirements and application process, so it is important to do your research to find the program that is right for you.
  • 2. Get all of your documentation in order: When you apply for low income housing, you will need to provide documentation of your income, assets, and household composition. This documentation may include tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, and birth certificates.

  • 4. Waiting Lists: The waiting lists for most, if not all low-income housing programs is long. Do not limit yourself to only apply to one apartment location.

I am a single 50 year old paraplegic and my only source of income is my social security of $17,700 a year. I would be the only occupant and i am completely independent and drive myself. I am moving to chattanooga to be near my daughter and her family who just took a job at erlanger medical center but at this time would like to continue to have my own space. Do i qualify to apply for income based apartments in chattanooga area 1-2 bedroom? What would the rent be? How long is the wait for a wheelchair accessible apartment?
